THE DANUBE - BUDAPEST TO PRAGUE

This trip starts in Budapest and ends in Prague. The method of travel is by specially designed canal ships that are long and low in order to get under many bridges. Our ship the Amaddagio had an elevator that operates between the cabin decks and the dinning deck and the indoor observation lounge/bar. Unfortunately it does not go up to the outside roof observation deck. However, the views from the lounges are as good and certainly warmer. The Danube is no longer blue, but it is a wonderful trip by ship and shore. The problem is getting between the ship and the shore. But this particular trip is not designed to handle a wheelchair dependent traveler. The cobblestones are not just annoying they are really a pain in the tush. Getting around this hilly area is difficult and added to that the cobblestones the lack of wheelchair lifting busses and a gangplank that really does not work for a chair, I recommend one of the other great trips on this site.
P.S. The crew can get you there, but it ain’t pretty.

Budapest is a fantastic city that has worked its way out of the dark ages into the 21st century in
just a few years. Both Budapest and Prague were occupied and run by the USSR for many unfortunate years and the history is full of heroes and bad guys, but the recovery has been magnificent. These cities are somewhat accessible and a pleasure to visit.

The trip takes you up the Danube through many locks and beautiful countryside to three other countries and their capitals. This is really a great trip to take a book and read about the recent history as it is compared to the wondrous past, and then to see for yourself the results. It is amazing how the modern mixes with the past. You will also visit the capitals of Slovakia, Poland and Germany.

The crew and service aboard is excellent, they do their best to make sure that the trip is enjoyable and that you meet as many of your fellow passengers (approximately 130) as possible. There is open seating in the dinning area, so you can be as private or as adventuresome as you wish. All in all this is a beautiful part of the world with lots of old world charm.
